There has never been a better time to buy a suppressor. They’re legal to own and hunt with in Texas, the paperwork is electronic and faster than it’s ever been, and as of January 1, 2026 the federal tax stamp is $0 — the old $200 tax is gone. Here’s the whole process, guided by us end to end.
First, the big questions
- Legal? Yes. Suppressors are legal to own in Texas and legal for hunting here.
- Tax stamp? $0 for suppressors as of January 1, 2026. The registration process still applies — what’s gone is the $200 tax.
- Wait time? Electronic Form 4 approvals have gotten dramatically faster — often days to a few weeks. Timelines vary; we keep you posted the whole way.
Step 1 — Pick your can
Caliber, host gun, hunting or range use, budget — we’ll match you to the right suppressor at your appointment, or special-order the exact model you’ve researched. Browse what’s in stock in our inventory.
Step 2 — Individual or trust
You can register an NFA item as an individual (simpler) or through a gun trust (easier sharing with family, cleaner long-term planning). We’ll lay out the trade-offs plainly — either way works, and we handle the filing the same.
Step 3 — The Form 4
The ATF Form 4 is the application to transfer the suppressor to you. We file it electronically through eForms and walk you through every field. You’ll provide:
- Fingerprints (we’ll guide you — electronic prints make this painless)
- A passport-style photo
- The standard background check
Our NFA transfer fee is $100, paperwork included — and if you buy your suppressor through us, the transfer itself is free. Details on our FFL Transfers page.
Step 4 — The wait (shorter than you’ve heard)
Your suppressor stays safely logged with us while the ATF processes the application. Electronic filings have cut the old months-long waits down dramatically for most applicants. We’ll notify you the moment your approval comes back.
Step 5 — Pickup day
Book your pickup appointment, sign off, and go enjoy quieter shooting. Keep a copy of your approved form with the suppressor — we’ll explain the simple rules for transporting and lending it.
